The English Pointer

The English Pointer is named for the motionless stance the dog assumes once he has found game (a bird). Pointers are intelligent, good tempered, affectionate dogs, making them perfect companions for the home. They are a muscular, medium sized dog ranging in height from 24-28 inches for males and 23-26 inches for females and can weigh anywhere from 40-65 pounds.

Pointers come in various colors, black and white, liver and white, lemon and white, and orange and white, and solid colors of the same. The smooth coat of the Pointer is very easy to maintain. A weekly brushing with a curry brush will get all the loose hairs and make for a shiny coat. However, don't be fooled by their short hair as Pointers do shed!!!!

Pointers are good with children. They are devoted and affectionate towards their family and will do anything to please their owner. They are quite intelligent and fairly easy to train. Pointers are an active breed and do require some type of outlet for their energy, whether it be hunting, playing fetch in the yard, competing in agility, or taking a jog around the block.

The German Shorthaired Pointer

The German Shorthaired Pointer was bred as a multi purpose dog that hunts, retrieves, and tracks. They are very energetic, smart, protective, loyal, and willing to please. They are very people oriented and not happy if isolated from the family. GSP's range in height from 23-25 inches for males and 21-23 inches for females, and weigh between 40-70 pounds.

GSP's mainly are liver and white (roaned or ticked), but can also be black and white or solid colors of the same. The smooth coat of the GSP is very easy to maintain with a weekly brushing with a curry brush to get all the loose hairs and makes the coat shiny. However, don't be fooled by their short hair as GSP's do shed!!!!
